Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS):

Thames College of Technology is offering Preparing to teach in the Lifelong learning Sector.

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS) award is the first stage in the qualification for lecturers. PTTLS is the first stage of the new Initial Teacher Training Qualifications and can be done at either Level 3 or Level 4. You will need to achieve at Level 4 to progress on to the Diploma award.

The course includes experience of different aspects of teaching, from the perspective of the student and teacher. You will deliver teaching sessions to your peers and be asked to reflect on your learning experiences in the classroom. It gives you a career sharing your knowledge with other adults whilst you receive guided learning in teaching theory and practice.

The awarding body is Highfield Awarding body for Compliance (HABC).

The HABC Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is aimed at those wanting to teach in the lifelong learning sector, or those already teaching within the sector that do not have the relevant qualifications. From September 2007, all new teachers must gain a Licence to Practice at the start of their career.

The PTLLS Award consists of five sections:

  • Understand your own role and responsibilities and the boundaries of your role in relation to teaching.

  • Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area.

  • Demonstrate session planning skills.

  • Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate learners.

  • Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping.

Programme Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for the PTLLS award. However, learners should be qualified and/or experienced in the subject that they wish to teach.

Structure of the Award
Section 1

Level 3 Award In Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

The HABC Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is ideal for new entrants into the teaching industry. It is also ideal for anyone currently teaching or who wishes to teach their subject specialism to others. If you are a trainer involved in providing funded Work Based Learning (WBL), you may also be required to obtain PTLLS in order to satisfy funding requirements.

The qualification is registered on the Qualification and Credit Framework (QCF), and has a credit value of 6. Future qualifications may include progression onto the Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS) or the Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS).

How is it achieved?

During the qualification learners will produce a portfolio of evidence that will meet the learning outcomes from the five sections listed above. This will consist of 5 theory assessments and 1 practical assessment. The practical assessment consists of one 30 minute micro-teach session delivered as part of the programme, where both tutor and peer feedback will be given.

Level 4 Award in Preparing To Teach In the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

The HABC Level 4 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) is ideal for new entrants into the teaching industry. It is also ideal for anyone currently teaching or who wishes to teach their subject specialism to others.

Duration: 5 Days with flexible learning period

  • Monday – Friday: 10.00am - 16.00pm

  • Saturday: 10.00am - 14.00pm

  • Evening: 17.00pm - 19.45pm

Fees: £495.00
